The Society has completed a preliminary investigation about women and teenage girls who are fleeing hostilities in Ukraine being trapped in servitude.
The forms of servitude are agricultural labor. Some women and teenage girls have also been trafficked to unlicensed or illegal house of ill repute.
The male recruiters approach the women and teenage girls in the vicinity of the refugee camps or when they visit the local town. They promise free accommodation and employment. When approached by staff from the charities, the men disappear.
The woman and teenage girls become agricultural bonded laborers or, on occasion, bonded laborers in houses of ill repute. The phrase “bonded labor” is, in this century, a polite term for slavery.
